Thank you for praying for me this past year. My first year in San Francisco was a crazy time of doing relief in the Tenderloin district. I left there in December to begin something new. I'm finally ready to begin sharing what I'm starting in 2013 and I look forward to keeping everyone updated as things progress. I'm really excited about two things that are in the works:

I've heard this story so many times, but it didn't strike me until earlier this week. Daniel 3. In 605 BC, Israel was taken captive by Babylon. Shortly after that, the king of Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar) built a huge golden idol and forced everyone to bow down to it — both his Babylonians and the Israelites in his captivity. Everyone was commanded to bow down to it otherwise they would be thrown into a fiery furnace.

There is a famous story that goes like this: John Kavanaugh went to Calcutta to find out how he was to spend the rest of his life. When he met Mother Teresa, he asked her to pray for him. “What do you want me to pray for?” she replied. He then uttered the request he had carried thousands of miles:

I've always struggled with the fact that, when Jesus talked about the cost of following himself, most people weighed it and decided it was too great. Just a couple people followed. What I struggle with isn't that... That seems right when you consider Jesus calling people to give everything up to follow him.
